French is set in Year 7 according to previous experience and potential. Otherwise, subjects are taught by forms until Year 9. An option between Spanish and German as an additional foreign language is given as pupils move into Year 8. The children's pastoral care remains a high priority, and every child is assigned to a form and a form teacher. They meet every morning to check on progress, and special meetings are arranged as necessary. In Year 8, children have the opportunity to exercise their responsibility through the role of prefect or as one of the two Heads of Middle School. There are regular opportunites for parents to meet with teachers, and written reports are provided twice per year. Those with learning needs are assisted either in the classroom or through special small group (or one to one) lessons in the Learning Support Department. Good work and effort is rewarded with House Points and Headmaster's Gold Awards, and once a year at Speech Day & Prize Giving the highest achievers are more formally recognised. |

The curriculum in Year 7 remains broad and balanced, including English, Maths, Science and Information Technology (ICT); French; History, Geography and Religious Education (RE); Music, Drama, Art and Design; Games and Physical Education (PE); and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE).
