Adventure PlaygroundFrom age 7 to 9 children continue to be taught in forms, but with the valuable input of specialist teaching in some subjects, such as French, Music, Drama, PE and Sport.

Classes are small, and with Classroom Assistants supporting the teachers, the ratio of adult to pupil is advantageous. In addition, learning difficulties are addressed by staff from the Learning Support Department, either through in-class support or specially timetabled one to one lessons.

The School Day

Children in Year 3 are taught at Longdon Green and those in Year 4 are taught in The Cathedral Close. Lessons are normally 50 minutes in length, with six lessons each day. Children arrive for registration at 08.50 are collected by parents at 16.00. Short 'preps' are set each evening, often involving spelling and reading, but also project work and maths.

Subjects

The children study a broad curriculum of English, Mathematics and Science; French; History, Geography and Religious Education; Art, Design, Music and Drama; Physical Education and Games. ICT skills are an integral part of the curriculum from Year 3. The academic structure is closely aligned to the National Curriculum, but the School's independence allows the teachers to be selective of its strengths whilst retaining a balance of breadth.

Organisation

Mrs Rosemary Moore is the Coordinator of Years 3 and 4.  The classes have an independence from other year groups which allows for flexibility in giving the children a varied and inspiring programme of activities from one day to the next.  However, the School ensures that there is careful continuity in the curriculum thoughout all year groups.
