We have had a string of successes in a variety of X-Country tournaments just recently. At the beginning of March we had some top twenty performances from the Year 9 X-Country squad at the Friary School race meeting. Amelia Abrol achieved a highly commendable 10th place with Ellen Harries coming in 9th and Olivia Hutton just piping her to the post in at 8th. Mary McAneny achieved an awesome 5th place with a time of just over ten minutes (10.02). The lads also did well with Dan Bennett coming 14th, Rob Cadman coming 12th, Jordan Sproule in at 11th and George Allen coming 9th with a time of 9.06. The Worksop Prep School X-Country championship was characteristically tough both in terms of an ever undulating course and inclement weather. The U11 Girls ran a course of 2000m achieving some impressive times considering the wind speed! Lydia Vaughan came 66th with a time of 11.35, Lucy Holgate 62nd with a time of 11.29, Amy Gale 61st with 11.22, Chloe Newton 47th with a time of 10.27, Beth Jacob 28th with 9.46 and Ellie Proudlove with an awesome time of 9.29 coming in at 19th . The Boys felt a little disappointed that their race was 500m longer at 2.5K but still ran their hearts out on a character building course. Richard Chapman was in at 77th with a time of 12.37, Austin Coates 64th with a time of 11.19, Andrew Murphy 59th with a time of 10.59, Dom Geobey 44th with 10.36, Will Harvey in at 31st with a time of 10.18 and Matt Proudlove in at an impressive 22nd with a time of 10 minutes. Next came the U13 Girls led by an athletic Amelia Abrol fresh from her Friary race warm-up the day before! This was a testing 3000m course on which all the runners came within the top 40 – an excellent achievement in itself. Beth Fisher came 38th (17.40), Eden Gray came 37th (16.38), with Alex Tullah just in front at 36th (16.24). Grace Williamson was next up the order at 35th with a time of 16.01 with team mates Ellie Day coming 34th (16.00) and Captain Amelia Abrol leading by example at 31st with a time of 15.19. Last up were the U13 Boys who had to endure the suspense in quiet contemplation of the 4000m which lay before them! Again the whole squad performed admirably. Tom Rockett came in at 44th, Henry Teal 42nd, Conor McKeon 41st, Kristian Quirke 30th, Ed Simpson 27th and special mention to Captain Jack Franks coming an overall 11th – a remarkable achievement within such a strong field. The final race of the season involving Lauren Osborne, Chloe Cottle, Grace Morgan, Nicole Higgins, Megan Atkins, Lottie Pike, Beth Jacob, Ellie Proudlove, Chloe Newton, Lydia Vaughan, Lucy Holgate, and Amy Gale proved to be the climax of the season with an overall 2nd place for our talented LCS runners at the Whittington County Primary Schools race.
