Three Lichfield Cathedral School boys are taking the local rock world by storm after winning a local Battle of the Bands competition.

Twelve year olds Guy Burns-Mace, Robert Cadman and Joby Fitzgerald formed their band, 3 Pin Socket, less than a year ago and they are already proving popular. They entered Cannock College’s first Battle of the Bands competition at the end of August and were able to celebrate winning after impressing the panel of judges, which included former Eastenders actor Shaun Williamson.

The boys were surprised and delighted to win as they were very impressed with the seven other bands that performed.

They played four of their own songs and were rewarded with a live recording and video session at Greenwood Studios in Cannock . Event Organiser, Pete Keenan of Greenwood Studios, said “The quality of the bands was superb and the whole day was really good fun. 3 Pin Socket were the youngest of all the bands represented and really impressed the judges with their professionalism and I’m sure they will have a bright future. We will certainly be asking them to perform again at other events we are planning.”

Judge, Shaun Williamson, said ”This was a great showcase. There was fabulous energy from everybody and 3 Pin Socket should certainly stick at it.”

The boys have also recently been featured on Kerrang Radio and performed at the LA Rock Café in Lichfield . Dan Morfitt from Kerrang, who was at Cannock College for the Battle of the Bands competition, said “I was prepared for mediocrity but I left dazzled by the rich talent on show, especially 3 Pin Socket, who you will be hearing on Kerrang Radio again very soon.”

Peter Allwood, Headmaster of Lichfield Cathedral School, said “This is the best young band I have heard in all the schools with which I’ve been associated. They write the lyrics and music themselves and have come up with fantastic ideas, though they assure me that they are not really lost in misery! They also perform with conviction and quality – it is so good to hear a young band who know how to tune their guitars well and get a good blend and balance. The whole school loves to hear them perform and we are all very proud of them.”

CDs are available to buy; please contact the School for further details.
