Dear ParentsĀ
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding this afternoon. For those of you who may not know, we had a small fire that was contained in one area of School House, one of the buildings we use in The Close. No one was hurt and all pupils and staff were quickly and safely evacuated to The Palace. As a consequence, the Lichfield site will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 7 March.
I have met with all our staff and tomorrow we will plan a schedule for restoring a full teaching service at the Lichfield site as soon as possible. I will be meeting with a structural engineer tomorrow morning to assess the damage and alternative classroom spaces are being identified within The Close.
My first priority is to restore GCSE and A Level teaching, as the public examination classes are currently engaged in work crucial to their success this summer. Provision for children in Key Stages 2 and 3 is also being planned and will be implemented as soon as possible.
Parents of children using the minibus service to travel from The Palace to Longdon tomorrow are asked to arrive at the black gate at the rear of the school on Gaia Lane from 8.15am where they will be met by staff.
Please check the school website (www.lichfieldcathedralschool.com) for updates and we will contact you via text message and email with new information. I am mindful of the difficulty of making alternative arrangements for your children at such short notice and I am grateful for the kind words and support that have been offered.
I would like to thank all the staff and children for their swift and sensible response to this incident. I am immensely proud to be their Headmaster.
Yours sincerely
Michael Chanter Headmaster
