Pupils and staff at Lichfield Cathedral School were delighted to welcome Mr Michael Chanter as their new Headmaster at the start of September. For the last seven years Mr Chanter has worked at Kent College, a leading independent day and boarding school, where he has been the Senior Deputy Head since 2007. Mr Chanter succeeds Peter Allwood who has returned to his first love, music, after 10 years of outstanding leadership and service. “I was attracted to Lichfield Cathedral School by the commitment to all-round excellence that pupils and staff show every day,” said Mr Chanter. “I am delighted to be taking up the Headship at such an exciting time in the school’s development. “I believe that academic success and high achievement in sport, music and performing arts go hand-in-hand, in a busy, but happy, environment. Everyone has been very welcoming and I am looking forward to getting to know pupils, parents, staff and the wider community.” Chairman of Governors, the Very Reverend Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield Cathedral, commented: “We had an outstanding field of candidates and we were delighted to appoint Michael Chanter. We were impressed by his comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and challenges that make the school such a creative and dynamic place in which to learn and work. We believe he has the enthusiasm and determination to build on the excellent foundations created by Peter Allwood and the senior management team. “All who met Mr Chanter during the interview process were impressed by his energy, and those who have worked closely with him in recent years have testified to his high professional standards, dedication to pupils and colleagues, and his ability to lift achievement through inspirational teaching practice.” Mr Chanter was educated in London reading his first degree in Politics and Modern History followed by a PGCE in History. He became a History teacher and subsequently the Head of History at schools in London, Sheffield and Tunbridge Wells. During his time at Kent College, Mr Chanter spent three years reading for his Master’s degree from King’s College London. |
