Anne Boleyn visit to LCS Print E-mail

On Thursday 18 March 2010, we were delighted that Lesley Smith, eminent historian and Curator of Tutbury Castle, become Anne Boleyn for the evening.

As part of the St. Chad's Youth Lecture Series, Lesley delivered an extraordinary performance telling the entralling tale of Anne, who for centuries has been portrayed as a cunning and manipulative woman responsible for causing the bloody aspects of the Reformation.

In truth, Anne was a highly educated, profoundly religious person who cared deeply about her moral standing. In this portrayal of Anne, Lesley appeared in Anne's execution gown during the last 45 minutes of her life in the Tower.

Lesley kept the audience entranced in an atmospheric, candle-lit Great Hall. It was a wonderful evening and a fantastic way of bringing history to life.
