All middle and senior school pupils at Lichfield Cathedral School
gathered in the Cathedral, along with staff and parents, on Ash Wednesday for
the annual Eucharist Service and the Imposition of Ashes. The service, led by the Dean, The Very Revd. Adrian Dorber, included bible readings and prayers led by pupils and a talk about the meaning of Lent by the Cathedral Precentor, The Revd. Canon Wealands Bell. The Cathedral Choristers and the School Girls’ Choir sang the very moving ‘Ex Ore Innocentium’ by John Ireland during the Imposition of Ashes; when the priests made the sign of the cross in ash on the foreheads of the congregation as a sign of the spirit of penitence to be kept during the season of Lent.
The choirs then also sang the beautiful Communion
Motet – Gabriel Fauré’s ‘Ave Verum Corpus’ - as the congregation received Holy
Communion or a blessing. |
