The Lichfield Cathederal Choristers are holding an Open Day on Saturday 7th June for boys aged 6-9 to experience a day in the life of a Cathedral Chorister. Lichfield Cathedral Choir is widely recognised as one of the finest in the English Choral Tradition. It makes frequent broadcasts on television and radio, as well as regular CD recordings and, in recent years, has toured Belgium, Germany, Holland, America and France. Philip Scriven, Director of Music at the Cathedral, said, "We are looking for boys aged 6-9 to come and experience the life of a Chorister. We are not looking for trained singers or any musical experience - just lots of enthusiasm and potential!! Last September we had a record number of seven new choristers, all of whom have settled in to the daily life extremely well and two of whom have already been installed as full choristers during Evensong earlier this year." All choristers are educated at the Cathedral School, within the glorious setting of the Cathedral Close, with scholarships valued at 50% of the school fees. Some of the boys receive further funding from the School or from the Choir Schools Association, as it is the aim that lack of financial means will not be an obstacle to a boy singing in the choir. The Open Day will be from 11.00 - 18.30 and the boys will have the opportunity to spend time with the choristers, find out about their daily schedule and their 'mystery tours' and even sing with them during Evensong. If you know of a boy who would like to benefit from this great opportunity, call Mrs Lesley Bannister on 01543 306168 for further information. |
