Luke BowenLichfield Cathedral School pupil, Luke Bowen, has been chosen as the reserve finalist in this year’s BBC Radio 2 ‘Chorister of the Year’ competition.

The final, which takes place on Saturday, 27th October at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, will be presented by Aled Jones, himself a former chorister.

Headmaster, Peter Allwood, said “To be chosen as the reserve finalist in this very prestigious competition, out of hundreds of entries, is a huge honour for Luke and we are all very proud of him. He is hoping that the reserve will be needed and that he will receive a request to take part at St Paul’s Cathedral as one of the eight finalists. He has already been asked to supply a list of the pieces that he would like to sing.”

Luke, aged 12, who has been a pupil at the Cathedral School for eight years, and a Lichfield Cathedral Chorister since 2005, can often be heard as a soloist during Cathedral services. He particularly loves camping and walking and would always take his French Horn with him if it weren’t so heavy! He also plays the violin and the piano.

The final of the ‘Chorister of the Year’ competition will be broadcast on Sunday, 4th November at 20.00 on BBC Radio 2.
