ChoristersThe Lichfield Cathedral Choir is looking for boys who love singing to join the ranks of the Cathedral Choristers and is holding auditions on Saturday 2nd February.

Lichfield Cathedral Choir is widely recognised as one of the finest in the English Choral Tradition. It makes frequent broadcasts on television and radio, as well as regular CD recordings and, in recent years, has toured Belgium, Germany, Holland and America.

Philip Scriven, Director of Music at the Cathedral, said, ”We are looking for boys who will be aged 6-9 at the time of the auditions. We do not expect them to be trained singers but to show vocal and musical potential and have some natural sparkle. Last September we had a record number of seven new choristers, all of whom have settled in to the daily life extremely well and two of whom have already been installed as full choristers during Evensong earlier this month.”

All choristers are educated at the Cathedral School, within the glorious setting of the Cathedral Close, with scholarships valued at 50% of the school fees. Some of the boys receive further funding from the School or from the Choir Schools Association, as it is the aim that lack of financial means will not be an obstacle to a boy singing in the choir.

If you know of a boy who would like to benefit from this great opportunity, call Mrs Lesley Bannister on 01543 306168.
