Recital in Symphony Hall Print E-mail
Saturday, 11 March 2006

The Lichfield Cathedral Choristers joined Thomas Trotter, the Birmingham City Organist, for his Lunchtime concert in Symphony Hall on Monday, 6th March.

The Symphony Hall web site described it as "A lovely programme of English and French sacred music for boys' voices and organ". So it was, not only lovely but well balanced, with contrasting pieces in which they took the opportunity to display their considerable talents.

As well as performing his own solo items, by Bridge and Dupre, Thomas Trotter, one of the world's top concert organists, accompanied the boys beautifully. The boys sang a selection of 20th Century music including work by Francis Poulenc, Benjamin Britten and Kenneth Leighton, with confidence and great clarity, projecting well in the large auditorium. The audience reaction was enthusiastic and more than one commented that they had sounded better than both a certain Anglian university college choir and a royal chapel choir.
