Lichfield Cathedral School Girls’ Choir performed their first concert in Birmingham Cathedral on Friday last in front of a large and appreciative audience. The 17 girls were delighted to receive the invitation to sing in Birmingham as part of the Cathedral’s regular Friday lunchtime concert series, and performed a wide variety of music including pieces by Bach, Schubert, Lloyd Webber and Elton John. The choir, formed last September, is already in great demand for concerts in the region and held their hugely successful launch concert in Lichfield Cathedral last December. They also sing in school services in the Cathedral every week and sang their first Cathedral Evensong in January. Alex Mason, Assistant Organist at the Cathedral and Musical Director of the Girls’ Choir, said, “The girls have been working incredibly hard since they started in September and are already enjoying the benefits of working as a team and performing to appreciative audiences and congregations. They particularly enjoyed this opportunity to sing in Birmingham Cathedral and performed incredibly well. The audience found it hard to believe that the girls had been together for such a short time.” |
