Becoming a Girl Chorister Print E-mail

Anyone interested in becoming a girl chorister should contact Lesley Bannister on 01543 306168 to book a place at the next choral auditions.

On the 26th January 2013 we will be running a Choral Experience Workshop for girls aged between 9 and 13 years called 'Be a Chorister for a Day'. This is an excellent opportunity to find out more about the girl choristers and the Cathedral School. Call 01543 306168 to book a place on this free workshop.

Places girl choristers are currently available for audition in January 2013 to start from September 2013.

Internal and external candidates currently in Years 5 or 6 are eligible to audition for a place. Places will be awarded entirely at the School's discretion.

The  Auditon

The next auditions for girl choristers will take place on Saturday 9th February 2013 and will be a friendly and affirmative occasion. Please note, however, that competition for places in past years has been strong, and in some years not all places have been offered.

At the audition, girls will be asked to:

  • sing a prepared short piece of their own choice (please bring a copy of the music - we will provide a pianist);
  • sing a new piece (to be taught on the day)
  • sing some vocal exercises; and
  • participate in aural exercises (scales, arpeggios, singing back notes, picking out a note from a chord, etc).

Those external candidates that are short-listed will be required to sit an academic assessment for the School to ensure that they could benefit from the education that the School offers.

If you are interested in auditioning to be a girl chorister, please get in touch with Lesley Bannister at the School on 01543 306168.
