In September 2007 the School began teaching pupils in Year 9. The children in all year groups from Year 4 are benefitting from the new facilities provided for GCSE teaching, including three new science laboratories, for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The current buildings in the Close have been adapted and resourced for each subject department. Aspects of the broader curriculum, such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and a Community Service Group, have been introduced at Year 10. Year 3 are now accommodated in new classrooms at Longdon Green and over the Summer 2008 the Receptions Classes and Nursery playground were improved to continue the programme of increased quality of provision for all children in the Junior school. The School has been steadily increasing the number of teachers with secondary experience, and all departments now have their specialist teachers for GCSE. A full subject option list for GCSE enables pupils make their choices during Year 9. Our first set of GCSE results were extremely good, with 88% of students achieving 5 A*-C grades, including English and Mathematics. The launch of the Sixth Form in September 2010 completes the expansion in secondary education. We can now look forward to our first set of A Level results in the summer of 2012, which is also the 70th anniversary of the refounding of the School. |

The acquisition of St. John's Preparatory School in Longdon Green in 2006 enabled the Cathedral School to take a considerable step forward in the realisation of its vision to create a co-educational independent school for Lichfield and the West Midlands, a School which will provide children, ultimately from Nursery through to A-level, with the highest standard of education and the best preparation for life.
