Delight at GCSE League Table results
Friday, 14 January 2011

On Wednesday, we were thrilled to discover that in our first year of GCSEs, we had achieved a great success.

The main measure normally used to rank schools is the proportion of students who achieved 5 GCSEs with grades between A*-C, including English and Mathematics.  With 88%, LCS has come third in Staffordshire.

A new measure was used for the first time this year, called the English Baccalaureate, in which LCS has come first in Staffordshire. In future this be awarded to pupils attaining A*-C GCSE passes in Mathematics, English, Science, a Modern Foreign Language and Geography or History.

The introduction of the English Baccalaureate has divided opinion across the country, with some schools concerned that it puts pressure on them to focus on traditional academic subjects at the expense of popular vocational qualifications.  However, the Department of Education hopes that the English Baccalaureate will reverse the rapid decline in the proportion of students studying Modern Foreign Languages and Humanities.

Clearly, this new measure will reflect well on a school like ours, which believes in maintaining the breadth and balance of the curriculum.

We congratulate the students and staff who worked so hard to achieve these fantastic results!

Year 7 Team Building at Chasewater
Wednesday, 08 September 2010

On Friday 10th September, the Year 7 pupils will experience a fantastic day of team building activities at Chasewater.

We are delighted that so many new pupils choose to join the LCS community in Year 7 and these activities will help the children get to know each other, build confidence and encourage creativity.

Chasewater was created as a canal feeder reservoir in the eighteenth century and remains the largest in use in the region today. The lake is situated in Chasewater Country Park, six miles from the centre of Lichfield, and hosts many leisure opportunities including water skiing, sailing, angling and a steam railway. All the family can enjoy walking and cycling across the easy terrain. There are regular exhibitions in the Forest of Mercia Innovation Centre and craft workshops. During school holidays, visitors can enjoy crazy golf, boating and pedal go-karts.
