Message from the Headmaster:
I am delighted to say
that the whole Lichfield site will be open as normal from tomorrow,
Thursday 8 March. For the time being, we will not be using the School
House building. However, the other 4 school buildings remain unaffected and additional accommodation has been made available to us within The
Close by the Cathedral Chapter.
All Year 4 children will move, temporarily, to our Junior Division located in Longdon.
All Year 5 to Upper Sixth pupils will return to a normal timetable within The Close.
A letter containing detailed information for parents can be found in the parent login area.
The fire was caused by
an electrical fault in a laptop computer. Two rooms on the first
floor and one on the ground floor of the School House building have been damaged. The remaining
rooms have been affected by smoke and will require specialist
cleaning by teams that will be in school from tomorrow formulating a
plan and a timetable to restore full access to the School House building as soon as possible.
On behalf of all staff, I thank you for the many
cards and offers of support that have been received.
Yours sincerely,
Michael
Chanter
Headmaster

Dear Parents
Thank you for your
co-operation and understanding this afternoon. For those of you who
may not know, we had a small fire that was contained in one area of
School House, one of the buildings we use in The Close. No one was
hurt and all pupils and staff were quickly and safely evacuated to
The Palace. As a consequence, the Lichfield site will be closed
tomorrow, Wednesday 7 March.
I have met with all our
staff and tomorrow we will plan a schedule for restoring a full
teaching service at the Lichfield site as soon as possible. I will
be meeting with a structural engineer tomorrow morning to assess the
damage and alternative classroom spaces are being identified within
The Close.
My first priority is to
restore GCSE and A Level teaching, as the public examination classes
are currently engaged in work crucial to their success this summer.
Provision for children in Key Stages 2 and 3 is also being planned
and will be implemented as soon as possible.
Parents of children
using the minibus service to travel from The Palace to Longdon
tomorrow are asked to arrive at the black gate at the rear of the
school on Gaia Lane from 8.15am where they will be met by staff.
Please check the school
website (www.lichfieldcathedralschool.com)
for updates and we will contact you via text message and email with
new information. I am mindful of the difficulty of making
alternative arrangements for your children at such short notice and I
am grateful for the kind words and support that have been offered.
I would like to thank
all the staff and children for their swift and sensible response to
this incident. I am immensely proud to be their Headmaster.
Yours sincerely
Michael Chanter

Students at Lichfield Cathedral School celebrated fantastic GCSE results with 97% of students achieving at least 5 GCSEs with A* - C grades.
Headmaster, Michael Chanter, said: “The students’ commitment, enthusiasm and hard work have been rewarded with excellent grades. I am thrilled that, as a non-selective school, we can celebrate a 100% pass rate, with nearly 40% of the grades being either A* or A grades.”
“Students at every level of ability have worked hard to achieve at or above their own personal targets and, as a result, they are now able to move on with confidence to the next step in our Sixth Form,” said Susan Hannam, Deputy Head.
53% of the entries were at least 1 grade higher than the target grade, which clearly demonstrates the value added by the exceptional teaching, supportive school environment and small class sizes.
“Strong results in the traditional, more demanding academic subjects, combined with our continuing commitment to languages, music, the performing arts and sport, ensure that Cathedral School students are prepared for the challenges of A Levels, university and life beyond,” added Mr Chanter.

The Choristers of Lichfield Cathedral were delighted to sing for Her Majesty The Queen on Wednesday 20 July.
The Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry held a service in the Cathedral on the completion of a tour of duty in Afghanistan. The Queen, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, awarded medals to several soldiers.
Following the service, the Regiment hosted a lunch in the Great Hall of The Palace, with The Queen as guest of honour. On arrival, Her Majesty was greeted by the Head and introduced to the choristers. The Queen complimented the boys on their fine performance.
